Monterey Car Week at Pebble Beach has hosted the unveiling of the Mercedes-Benz Vision EQ Silver Arrow show car, a one-seater homage to the 1937 W 125 twelve-cylinder, record-breaking racing car.

Featuring Alubeam Silver paintwork the show car reflects the look of the historic Silver Arrows which did not get a white paint layer, to keep the weight down.

Fancy 168 spoke wheels made of lightweight aluminium and painted rose gold continue the EQ traditional elements. They also feature non-rotating hubcaps and an exclusive star pattern on the tread.

The star pattern has also been carried into the cabin with the sitting surface and backrest featuring the unusual pattern which has been stitched in with the help of laser engraving.

Genuine leather, polished aluminium and solid walnut also feature in the interior as a nod to the past whilst a digital cockpit with curved panoramic back projection screen with a touchscreen integrated into the steering wheel is a step towards the future.

One point of difference that won’t be found in other vehicles is the ability to participate in a virtual race, in this case against historic or present Silver Arrow race cars.

To make this possible a virtual racetrack is superimposed onto the real road via the panoramic screen and the driver can view their opponent as a ‘ghost’ as they race.

The Virtual Race Coach assistance function also dishes out instructions during the race to improve the driving.

Cleverly, the Vision EQ Silver Arrow is an electric vehicle which uses two electric motors paired with an 80kWh battery to produce 550kW of power. It has a claimed range of over 400km according to the WLTP estimate.

Wealthy enthusiasts can stay calm, the Vision EQ Silver Arrow isn’t heading into production.
