After a plethora of wildly inaccurate renders, the Tesla Cybertruck (pick-up or ute depending on your location) has been revealed.

To say it’s an interesting design would be a colossal understatement, however, apparently there is some method to the visual madness.

The Cybertruck is built with an exterior shell made from Ultra-Hard 30X Cold-Rolled stainless-steel. Tesla says “if there was something better, we’d use it.”

If the press material is to be believed, the material should eliminate dents, damage and long-term corrosion, while putting the shell on the outside provides maximum protection for occupants.

Tesla announced three variants: Single Motor RWD, Dual Motor AWD and Tri Motor AWD.

Priced from $US39,900 ($59,000 AUD) the Single Motor rear-wheel drive model is capable of a driving range of 400km. It can carry 1500kg in the tray, and tow 3400kg. Expect a 0-100km/h sprint time of 6.5 seconds. So the numbers look good.

Moving to the Dual Motor all-wheel drive model ($US49,900/AUD$73,500) increases the driving range to around 482km. It maintains the 1500kg payload but the towing capacity climbs to 4500kg. The dash to triple figures should be in the vicinity of 4.5 seconds.

The flagship Tri Motor Cybertruck (US$69,900/AUD$103,000) can cover up to 800km with a full battery, carry 1500kg in the back and tow a whopping 6300kg. In terms of speed, it won't be shamed at the lights taking approximately 2.9 seconds to hit 100km/h.

All variants feature adaptive air suspension to adjust the Cyybertruck’s height to the driving situation and a tail-gate that extends to form a loading ramp. Interestingly, when the tailgate is opened, the rear suspension lowers automatically.

Tesla is promising ground clearance of up to 400mm with an approach angle of 35 degrees and a departure angle of 28 degrees.

On the inside, there’s enough room to seat six adults, while the dash gets a 17-inch touchscreen.

While local pricing hasn’t been confirmed, Australian buyers can place a reservation for the Cybertruck online with a $150 deposit.

As is the way with Tesla, patience will be required. Those who are keen on a Cybertruck will complete their configuration as production nears in late 2021, while the flagship Tri Motor AWD model is expected to enter production late in 2022.
