2019 is now warming up and a multitude of brands are recalling vehicles for a variety of reasons. Hyundai, Porsche, Ram, Volvo, Land Rover, Jaguar and Tesla have issued recall notices this week.

At the top of the table, Hyundai requires a number of Kona 1.6T vehicles sold between April 20, 2018, and September 11, 2018, to return to a dealership due to an issue with the front brake tube.

During assembly, some vehicles may not have had the component fitted correctly leading to the tube coming into contact with the exhaust system which could compromise the braking performance. In affected vehicles, the brake line may be squashed or ruptured with prolonged contact which could ultimately lead to the brakes failing and causing an accident.

Hyundai is requesting that affected vehicles (VINs found here) be returned to an authorised Hyundai dealership as soon as possible to have the vehicle inspected. If a fault is found it will be rectified free of charge.

A recall from Porsche requires Panamera 971 models sold between April 4, 2016, and December 6, 2018, to visit a dealership due to a software error.

The issue affects the electric power steering which in turn requires the driver to use greater force to turn the steering wheel. When the power steering becomes unavailable the steering control is reduced which may increase the risk of an accident occurring.

Known owners will be contacted by mail or they can contact their nearest Porsche dealer to arrange an inspection and repair if necessary. A list of affected VINs can be found here.

Ram 1500 vehicles sold between June 1, 2018, and December 31, 2018, will need to visit their nearest dealer due to a problem with the parking brake.

The outer cable sheath may slip through the end fitting which will cause the parking brake to become difficult to operate or fail. Should this occur there is an increased risk of accident and injury to occupants and other road users and vehicles as the vehicle will be unable to be secured correctly.

Known owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail or can check here using their VIN, and are advised to contact their nearest Ram dealer to arrange an inspection and rectification if necessary.

Volvo has recalled MY15 and MY16 S60, V60, V40, V40 Cross Country and XC90 vehicles with a diesel engine due to a potentially leaking hose on the fuel line.

Cracks may appear in the inner layer of the hose which is exacerbated when the system is pressurised. This may result in a fuel smell which could affect vehicle occupants and other road users.

Owners are advised to contact their nearest Volvo dealer to have the hose on the fuel line replaced. VINs of affected vehicles can be found here.

There is seemingly no end to the Takata airbag recalls which plagued motorists in 2018. This week recalls for vehicles needing replacement airbags fitted consist of:

MY14-16 Tesla Model S (VINs here)
MY17 Land Rover Discovery Sport (VINs here)
MY17 Jaguar XE, XF and F-Pace (VINs here)

As with all Takata airbag recalls the sooner the airbags are replaced the better as the propellant used to inflate the airbag degrades with age, exposure to high temperatures and humidity which increases the risk of metal fragments being projected through the airbag cushion towards vehicle occupants from the metal inflator housing which could, and has, cause a fatality.

Concerned vehicle owners can also use their number plate to check if their vehicle is affected by the Takata recalls here or contact their nearest dealership.
