Volkswagen Australia has confirmed it will permanently support its new cars with a five-year, unlimited kilometre warranty from January 1.

The move follows that of Mazda, Honda, Holden and Ford, which have all recently switched to five-year coverage.

Interestingly, Volkswagen is the first German brand to offer a five-year warranty in Australia.

The five-year warranty extends to genuine accessories purchased with the vehicle.

While the additional warranty coverage is welcomed, it’s still a way off the seven-year, unlimited kilometre warranty offered by Kia and SsangYong. MG is also offering a seven-year plan on certain models.

Of the mainstream, only Nissan, Subaru and market leader Toyota are still offering a three-year warranty term.
