The upgraded 2018 Toyota Kluger range is now available to order, the new model year brings additional safety technology such as autonomous emergency braking, lane-departure alert, active cruise control and automatic high beam.

Kluger is the third Toyota SUV to receive a safety upgrade in recent times following the popular Prado and RAV4.

Autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning and automatic high beam were previously only available on the flagship Kluger Grande.

The additional safety tech does come with a slight increase in prices, the entry-level GX variant rises by $950, while the mid-range GXL model rises by $1400, however, it also gains blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

The Kluger's drivetrain remains unchanged, power comes from the same 3.5-litre V6 engine which is capable of 218kW/350Nm mated to a standard eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Kluger continues to be a strong performer for Toyota, it is number two in the large SUV segment (Prado is number one) with sales rising 5.4 per cent in 2017 to 12,509 vehicles.
