Toyota has detailed aspects of the all-new Corolla hatch, the popular small car will launch locally in August with a full reveal scheduled for the immanent New York motor show.

Whilst specific performance numbers are yet to be released, a new 2.0-litre four-cylinder powerplant is confirmed for the engine bay which will be mated with either the new six-speed manual gearbox or all new Dynamic-Shift CVT automatic transmission.

Toyota will also offer the latest version of the 1.8-litre hybrid powertrain to Corolla hatch buyers.

As with a host of other new Toyota’s the Corolla will be built on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform (this also underpins the new Camry and C-HR), which is said to improve rigidity by up to 60 per cent. A new multi-link rear suspension and upgraded front suspension will also feature.

Safety will remain a priority with many standard advanced safety technologies fitted including a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, active cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beam, seven airbags and a reversing camera.

In terms of appearance the new Corolla hatch is now 25mm lower, 30mm wider and 40mm longer than the outgoing model with wider tracks and a 40mm longer wheelbase. A lowered bonnet should also provide better forward visibility.

A rounded nose and trapezoidal-shaped under grille flanked by slim bi-LED headlamps which sink deep into the front fenders now present a sportier appearance at the front of the Corolla hatch. Wheel sizes also range from 16- to 18-inches.

At the rear, the hatch tailgate uses Toyota Super Olefin Polymer and Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene to shave the kilograms off. It also emulates a sportier look set at a more acute angle. LED taillights, redesigned rear bumper and chrome diffuser complete the look.

Internally details confirmed include new sport seats with a longer and wider centre console. Comfort was also considered with the front passengers hip points sitting lower to promote a more natural body posture and positioning.

An electronic park brake, two front USB outlets and the option of a JBL premium audio sound system with Clari-Fi will also be available.

Grade-dependant features for the Corolla hatch include single-zone manual air-conditioning or dual-zone automatic climate control, paddle shifters and 4.2- or 7.0-inch multi-information display.

More information will be available after the reveal of the Toyota Corolla at the New York motor show with local pricing expected to be confirmed closer to the August launch date. Stay tuned!
