Specs and pricing have been announced for the new Volkswagen Crafter TDI410 4Motion which starts at $57,590 plus on-road costs.
 
The on-demand all-wheel drive system commands a $4500 premium over the already available front-wheel-drive variants.
 
Volkswagen will offer the Crafter 4Motion in all body types including medium- and long-wheelbase van, along with long-wheelbase single- and dual-cab chassis.
 
Regardless of the body style, the Crafter 4Motion is powered by a transversely mounted 130kW/410Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, it’s matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission that drives all four wheels.
 
Standard equipment includes front and side airbags, autonomous emergency braking, front and rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera, driver fatigue detection and crosswind assist.
 
Park assist, rear traffic alert, lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, a mechanical diff lock and hill descent assist can all be optioned.
 
Buyers will also get a customer-specific Function Control Unit (CFCU) with bodybuilder programming as standard and optional telematics preparation that integrates the vehicle into an existing fleet management system.
