BMW has revealed the M5 Edition 35 Years, a commemorative version of the Bavarian bruiser.

Limited to 350 units worldwide, the M5 Edition 35 Years pays homage to the success of the performance sedan over the last three and a half decades. The M5 was a born winner back in 1984, launching with the inline six-cylinder engine from the M1 sports car.

The Edition 35 Years is based on the fire-breathing M5 Competition (thankfully GOT is nearly done) which packs the 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 460kW and 750Nm. It’s matched to an eight-speed automatic that sends power to the M xDrive all-wheel drive system. BMW claims it can sprint from 0-100km/h in 3.3 seconds. Not too shabby.

Externally, the limited edition is differentiated by Frozen Dark Grey II metallic paint from BMW’s Individual palette, the marque says the paint has a special pigmentation to create a silk matt surface impression.

There’s also newly designed 20-inch M light alloy wheels finished in Graphite Grey and the M compound brake system finished in high-gloss black. M carbon ceramic brakes with calipers finished in gold can be optioned.

On the inside, the Edition 35 Years features Merino full leather trim in black with beige contrast seams, gold anodised aluminium carbon structure trim finishers, door sill finishers bearing the inscription ‘M5 Edition 35 Jahre’ and an ‘M5 Edition 35 Jahre 1/350’ engraving on the cupholder cover.

BMW Australia is yet to confirm whether or not the M5 Edition 35 Years will be available locally, however, BMW’s M models do very well here and the brand has a history of offering special editions in Oz, meaning we’re likely to get this one. Stay tuned.
