BMW Group has unveiled a Concept Z4, the latest take on the BMW roadster. This is the precursor for what is ahead in the production version due to be revealed of the course of the year to come.

The BMW Concept Z4 is designed with the drive in mind. Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design said of the Concept Z4: “Stripping the car back to the bare essentials allows the driver to experience all the ingredients of motoring pleasure with supreme directness. This is total freedom on four wheels.”

The BMW Concept Z4 retains the classic roadster look with a long wheelbase accentuating the elongated body and compact rear but aims to bring a fresher, contemporary take on it. To do this, designers have crafted a shorter bonnet and crisp overhangs to balance proportions of the car moving the driver towards the centre. Rollover bars are also cleverly integrated into the design via large domes which reach towards the tail from the cabin.

20-inch light-alloy wheels in a bicolour double-spoke design stand out against the Energetic Orange exterior paint.

On the inside, the exterior is reflected through the colour accents creating a connection between the two separated only by a chrome trim strip.

The driver's seat door trim panels instrument panel and centre stack are finished in a contrasting black which stands out from the orange shades. Together they enhance the sporty feeling of the cockpit.

The infotainment is all that one would expect in a concept car with the Concept Z4 featuring two displays, almost parallel, which work together to provide the driver with information of their choosing including route guidance and playlists among other things. Head-up display technology is also employed.

BMW appear proud of their latest concept car and it will be interesting to see which elements make it into the production vehicles in the not-too-distant-future.
