Hyundai Motorsport has revealed the Veloster N ETCR, its first electric race car, at the Frankfurt motor show.

While it’s based on the road-going, front-wheel drive Veloster N model, the ETCR version uses a mid-mounted electric motor to drive the rear wheels. Hyundai hasn’t released any of the juicy details, so power and torque outputs are anyone’s guess.

Design work began in November 2018 progressing to a full testing program that will commence later this month. The plan is to have a pair of Veloster N ETCR cars produced for the first ETCR season.

The company says the development of the ETCR project mirrors Hyundai’s wider strategy for the development of electric road cars and further underscores Hyundai Motorsport’s performance capabilities.
