BMW has released the first remote software update for its Operating System 7.0, the over-the-air update will bring increased functionality to models equipped with the brand’s Intelligent Personal Assistant.
 
Called Remote Software Upgrade, the tech allows the vehicle to update automatically, similar to a smartphone.
 
This initial software upgrade is available on the new X5, 3 Series and 8 Series and updates the Intelligent Personal Assistant, active cruise control and side collision protection systems.
 
Customers will also be able to update their BMW with additional vehicle functions from the ConnectedDrive Store. This can be done inside the car or from the comfort of home via a smartphone.
 
Future Remote Software Upgrades are expected to expand and improve the system, best of all, BMW says it will remain free of charge.
