Regional dealerships have gotten onboard with the latest ANCAP initiative which puts the spotlight on vehicle safety, hoping to make it a key part of new car sales conversations, by displaying crash-tested vehicle wrecks in new car dealership showrooms.

ANCAP Chief Executive, Mr James Goodwin, commented, “Dealers are crucial advocates for ANCAP and the safer vehicles message.”

“Having consumers able to see, touch and even sit in a vehicle that’s been crash-tested – complete with deployed airbags and visible dummy contact points – is a unique experience.”

A consumer poll commissioned by ANCAP has shown that 88 per cent of customers who received safety information from dealers prior to purchasing a vehicle were influenced in the final purchase decision.

“We are stepping up our engagement with dealers, working with a range of vehicle brands, dealer groups and the Australian Automotive Dealer Association (AADA) to provide consumers with a tangible example of vehicle safety.”

“It is important we engage with dealers and consumers at the point-of-sale, and in particular, it is important we bring our display vehicles to regional dealerships as two thirds [66%] of all road deaths occur in regional and remote areas,” Mr Goodwin added.

The first crash-tested vehicle to be displayed in a regional dealership was a new Kia Stinger which now resides beside its un-crashed counterpart on the showroom floor of Bathurst Kia. Other dealerships including Dubbo, Orange and Lithgow will also host the smashed up Stinger.

As part of the national display roadshow a Mazda CX-5, Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Kona, LDV D90 and Toyota Corolla have also been crash-tested and displayed.
